Company History of ZLT Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik GmbH & Co KG
ZLT Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik GmbH & Co KG was founded in September 1993 and is based in Friedrichshafen. The object of our company comprises the development, manufacturing and marketing of Zeppelins of New Technology.
Founded over 100 years ago by Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin (1838-1917), the business combination for airship development and manufacturing still exists today. The international companies Zeppelin GmbH and ZF Friedrichshafen AG arose from the Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH, which was founded in 1908. Today's chief partners of ZLT Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik GmbH & Co KG are the ZF Group (49 %) and Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH (51 %).
The application range of present airships was considerably extended by introducing the semi-rigid structure as a new construction principle, an innovative propulsion system and fly-by-wire control systems. Furthermore, the personnel-intensive ground handling at take-offs and landings, which is typical for airships, could be dropped.
In June 2001, the receipt of the type certification for the Zeppelin NT and the certification for ZLT Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik GmbH & Co KG as an airship manufacturing company laid the foundations for the future of airship manufacturing in Friedrichshafen.
